In-Pipe Slurry Application

 

Description

The system has been designed for installation directly in pipes for the measurement of the magnetic properties of process materials.  The system has been particularly useful when applied to the measurement of magnetite.  Other metalliferrous minerals can also be monitored when using the technology.

 

The system consists of an interrogation coil which is installed in a spool piece which is used to replace a section of the steel pipe to allow penetration of the resonant field.  A reference coil is located in the Electronics Control Cabinet which is mounted at a convenient location adjacent to the measurement coil.  The Electronic Control Cabinet also houses all the electronic components.  As the magnetic properties of the process medium change, these changes affect the electrical field of the measurement coil are is used to determine the metal content of the ore.  The mineral content can then be output to the plant PLC for process control functions.  Once the system has been installed, it has to be calibrated, which is usually carried out by taking samples of the process medium and analyzing for the mineral of interest.

 

Applications

The system has found to be useful in the minerals industries particularly the iron ore industry for the measurement of metal content of ore prior to processing.  The information provided by MAGNASAT is useful for process control purposes such as modulating feed rate to the crushing plant to ensure a consistent feed.
