Why the ultraWEIGH Low Cost Beltscale installation at Gambier Earth Movers was needed.

Increased demand for the high-quality product produced at the quarry provided the commercial impetus to increase production from 80 tph to 400 tph.  A tender for supply of a new crushing and screening plant for the Moree site was issued which included a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) operating system to manage the plant operation using a programmable logic controller (PLC).

In the quarrying industry, production statistics are becoming an ever more important Management and Accounting tool with this information now being required daily.  The relatively remote location of the Harrow site from GEMs Headquarters led to the need for regular, automatic reporting of the daily production to Head Office.  As part of the SCADA system, an automatic reporting regime was developed so that, at 6 PM each evening, the daily production data is emailed to GEM Management.  The daily totals are then zeroed ready for the next daily production activities.

The accumulated mass flows reported to Head Office require a reliable but relatively low-cost belt scale and the decision to select ultraWEIGH for the project is reported to be due to its low cost and ease of installation.  A total of 11 systems were purchased, one for each of the main production conveyor belts.

The systems have been in operation for many months now and are reported to be providing satisfactory performance by GEM.
