Global thermal-coal consumption increased by 70% between 2000 and 2014, slumped in 2016 and 2017 and has risen by 75% since. Consumption is dominated by Asia, led by China, then India, then Japan/South Korea/Taiwan, then South East Asia. The death of thermal coal, predicted by some, looks some way off.
